Advantages and disadvantages for sending and retrieving emails on a mobile internet device

In your own view, give two advantage and also Two disadvantage of using a mobile internet device for sending and retrieving email messages?

A mobile internet device such as a Blackberry has many different advantages and disadvantages. Starting with advantages, a mobile internet device is always-on wireless and it is not required to go through a connection procedure, therefore no more waiting to connect to the internet, just simply write the email and send it. Another advantage of emailing is that it costs less than sending an sms if you are intending to write a long message, this is because sms gives a limited amount of space to write whereas an email can contain as much text as the user requires.

Moving on to the disadvantages, starting with the cost. Mobile internet devices are very expensive to buy, it costs around £200 to purchase and if broken it could cost a fortune to fix. Another disadvantage is that using a the device in public for emailing such as on the train or bus stops can lead to security threats. If not careful enough, people passing or sitting by you can easy see what you are writing in your emails.

IP Addresses Shortly to Run Out

Describe (using your own words) why IP addresses for devices connected to the Internet are due to run out shortly and propose what possible solutions have been put forward to address this massive ‘time-bomb’?

New Internet Protocol (IP) addresses are believed to be running out rapidly. It could run out in just four years’ time according to John Curran, the head of the American Registry of Internet numbers (ARIN).

Due to an increase of new users in mainly India and China, the new IP addresses are being used up rapidly. The crisis of falling numbers of new IP addresses may result in an increase in the price of internet access.

The current and most popular network layer protocol in use today is IPv4, where “v4” meaning that they are made up of four integers between 0 and 225. This allows 4.3 billion addresses, which is not quite enough to cover the new Asian growth, in internet use.

To solve this problem, IPv6 addresses, using six integers, are planned for the future, in order to handle the increased demand for IP addresses. IPv6 is a conservative extension of IPv4. The main feature of IPv6 is that it has a larger address space; addresses in IPv6 are 128 bits long while addresses in Ipv4 are 32 bits long.

The adoption of IPv6 has been slow but as of 2008, The US government systems will be supporting IPv6.

How Yahoo and Google search engines work?

Describe how the www.Yahoo.com search engine works and give one advantage and one disadvantage in this method of searching?

Yahoo search engine works as a hierarchical subject index, this means it allows people to search from the general to the specific materials. When a keyword is entered into the Yahoo search engine, the engine then searches its index and finds all the websites that has the keyword or keywords that have been entered by the user. However, Yahoo search engine does not search the entire web.

Yahoo search engine have a large number of advantages and disadvantages. A good advantage is that the search engine is easy-to-navigate subject catalogue. A disadvantage is that only a small portion of the web has actually been catalogued by Yahoo.

Describe how the www.Google.com search engine works and give one advantage and one disadvantage in this method of searching?

Google search engine builds a list of words and notes where they were found. It then builds an index and encodes the data to save space and finally stores data for people to access by entering keywords into the search engine. Google search engine is the world’s most popular search engine as it has the biggest index system.

Google has many advantages one of them is; if a keyword was typed incorrectly with a spelling mistake in the Google search engine, the search engine will then give an option to correct the keyword, by showing you the right spelling for the word.

A disadvantage of Google search engine is that, it is too plain. Unlike Yahoo, for example, Google search engine does not contain many colours in its pages, the main colours used in Google are blue and black. Making the website more colourful can attract more users.

In your view explain which search engine you prefer to use when searching the web and justify why you have this preference?

Personally, I prefer the Google search engine because it simply has the best searching options such as you are able to filter what you are searching to protect children from unsuitable websites. There are simply too many advantages and too many options the Google search engine provides. It also has a very large, if not the largest index system. This means you are highly likely to find the right websites for your needs. From previous experience, when using Yahoo search engine to find the information I wanted, I wasn’t able to find it easily, however, when searching for the same information on Google I found the information I wanted. I cant remember a senario where google failed to give me the information I required therefore, it has always been my prefered search engine.
